Windows

Consumer Solutions represents all three major wood/composite window companies: Marvin, Pella and Andersen. We also sell some lesser known, but good quality brands like Lincoln and Semco. It is important to offer a variety of options with wood windows because every application is different. Each manufacture has their unique strengths and weaknesses depending upon the home. The problem with most local window companies, i.e. Champion, Gilkey, Pella, is that they sell one brand. As a result, they attempt to force their product into your distinctive situation. I believe Consumer Solutions is the only home improvement company in greater Cincinnati that offers and actively installs all three major brands.

We personally come out and assess each window before determining the best manufacture and course of action.

Here are some considerations we need to consider when replacing wood windows:

What is the extent of water damage to the exterior of the wood window. Please click here to see a home we did in Indian Hill that involved a complete tear out of each window, siding around the window and removal of mold on the plywood sheathing. The Andersen #400 series window was the best application for this project.

Should I go back with wood, composite or vinyl? We were able to install the Marvin insert wood window into this home to greatly increase the energy efficiency and functionality. With this application we did not have to remove the beautiful interior trim.

Budget considerations. Typically a wood or composite window application will run 75% more than vinyl replacement windows. We were able to install these color coated vinyl windows for half the cost of wood in Andersen Township. With these new vinyl windows, you cannot tell the difference between wood and vinyl from the outside. The secret is to use a full screen and use a different color than white or tan on the outside.

Do I want to go back with same type of windows? Should I replace my double hungs with casement windows? Can I replace my large from window with a bay or bow? On this home we replaced five double hung windows with Marvin dual casements. It changed the look of the entire home from a standard suburban two story to a colonial European look.

Age of home- What type of windows are going to look best with my time period?

What are my priorities? Thermal Efficiency, Aesthetics, functionality? These windows are Pella’s Architect series. All the windows in this house were casements, and required am upgrade to match the existing. The Architect series offers a unique look that is very easy to operate now.

Vinyl Windows:

Consumer Solutions sells almost exclusively the Alliance Window System by Midway. The differences in vinyl windows do not vary as much as wood so it critical to use a high quality manufacture that offers all the latest features that are available in vinyl. These features include:

Great thermal efficiency. All of Midway’s windows exceed the requirements to achieve the $1,500.00 tax deduction with regular low e/argon glass.

Exterior/Interior Colors. Midway has 29 different color combinations.

Aesthetics: Midway uses a European white extrusion with a beveled frame that looks like a wood window.

Noise Reduction. All of the Midway windows offer double strength glass which is 50% thicker than most glass. This reduces noise and is much harder to break.

Unparalleled Quality: Midway has been in business since 1963 and is a second generation owned family. Owner Art Straus is an engineer with off the chart standards on excellence.
